DEMETRA
Modelling Workshop is a three-day capacity building training workshop for Economic
Policy Modelling, 21-24 June 2025 in Kigali. It is organized as part of the
StEPPFoS project activities to strengthen the capacity of African researchers to
develop and use DEMETRA.
The model, developed by the Joint Research
Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, is a single-country CGE model extensively
being used under the framework of Pan African Network on the economic Analysis
of Policies (PANAP).
DEMETRA is written in GAMS programming language.
The workshop is
structured into two parts. Part 1 will introduce the basics of CGE
modeling, its main database, and an overview of its applications to different
contexts through a series of Online Lectures. Part 2 will be a three-day
in-person workshop and is devoted to providing hands-on training on DEMETRA using
GAMS. The workshop aims to attract about 25 researchers with an interest to apply
a national CGE model to analyze African agrifood systems. The workshop participants
include early and established researchers working on African food systems and
policies. The outcomes of this workshop are expected to support the PANAP’s
efforts to modeling and analyzing African agrifood policies.
Funded by the Strengthening Evidence-Based Policy Practice for Sustainable Food Systems under the EU-AU Partnership (StEPPFoS) and the Regional Multi-Actor Research Network on Agroecology to Support Regional Centres of Excellence related to the Green Transition (RMRN)
